Has anyone tried using a 'mid-mount' gas tank from a mid-80's ranger in an F1 or early F100?? I haven't taken any actual measurements yet, but I'm thinking this might work for my '52 F1- to save the back of the truck for an under-bed mounted spare tire.
Anyway, if someone has tried this (or knows this won't work), please let me know. Otherwise I'll pursue it some more and let you guys know if I can make it work.
Might work. The front tank held 13 gal. Dual tanks were only available on LWB and S/C models prior to 87. The two I had like that rusted out at the front of the tank because they had a plastic shield that trapped crap against the steel tank.
Yeah, I figured if I think it will work, I'd just get a new replacement tank to avoid any rust problems. Do you know what the capacity is of a single tank on the short bed Ranger?? I'm assuming that would be my best shot - as far as having room for it - length-wise!!
My '51 has a dual exhaust system on it and I don't see any way that I could do this even though I really want to get the gas tank out of the cab. I'm still hoping to find some type of tank to put behind the rear axle.
Good point!! I hadn't thought about exhaust. There are many aftermarket tanks that will work under the bed behind the rear-end or the 60's Mustang tanks will work too, I think. (see article on this site) I'm just trying to save that space to carry the spare tire.
Yes you can use a Ranger tank with dual exhaust. I did it on my '54.
See my web site by going to the gallery and selecting Winford's Trucks.
Go to my website from there, select automotive and follow the links.
I will put some more pictures up there soon. I will try to get some pictures of the exhausr from underneath (may be difficult).
My truck has a 92 Mustang 5.0 EFI with converter, dual exhaust and a Ranger tank inside the frame on the driver's side.
Another question for you (or anyone else out there):
I see you did the 5.0 injected engine so the tank mounted fuel pump is what you need. I want to do a carburated engine - will the tank mounted pump work for that?? What potential problems would that cause and is there a way around them?
