Insurance?

My 1950 is about ready to roll and I plan on actually using this truck in Tennessee, not a daily driver, but close. Any suggestions on insurance carriers who understand what this truck is about?

Keeping in mind that USAA stands for United Services Automobile Association and I think you still have to have served in the US armed forces or be immediate family of someone who has.

55FordLover, who did you deal with @ USAA? When I brought home my 62 and then my 53 I called them to check about insurance and they said that they wouldn't insure either as a classic (restored or not). If they have an agent that deals specificly with classics I would like to know who it is. Thanks for your help.

Insurance?

Explain to me what you are trying to achieve by going with an insurance company other than the one you normally use with your other daily drivers? I have never done this, since I just run liability on my old cars, but could you have it appraised and then run full coverage on the appraised value?

Under my current policy I would only get blue book value on any of my f100's... As I currently have much over blue book (and they're still sitting in the shop) I would basicly lose any money I had in them over blue book.

I agree on USAA, if you qualify. I cut my '51 Ford F1 insurance liability in half by leaving AAA and going USAA. (Of course, California has fairly high rates, anyway). There is another east coast firm that might take you if the truck is stock or close to it. It's old name was Skelly and Condon, but just bought by MetLife. I think they want to insure 2500 miles or less-driven classics. With a 302 and C-4, they didn't want my truck.

Check with your regular insurerer. When I got my '54 finished I went to my State Farm Insurance man and he told me about a their Classic insurance. All they need to do is take a couple pictures of your truck
and you tell them what you want to insure it for. Provided you don't put a lot of mileage on it the premium is quite low!

Insurance?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Dec-01 AT 09:47 AM (EST)]I have always had this problem with my 50 as well.. Most insurance companies won't insure something this old. Or if they do they will only allow you to carry liability only. I have heard of a few companies that will allow full coverage but will do some research to find out the names for ya. I should also mention that because my truck is more of a hybrid I try to avoid the Insurance Companies that want to take pictures and complete inspections. I currently only pay 250.00 a year to insure my truck through Geico insurance. Of which is only Liability only. Because of my truck being 4 wheel drive and a combination of 2 different trucks (73 and 50)I have always been reluctant to have insurance companies take pics and do inspections of it to insure it.

I use standard Allstate for my 55. All they require is an appraisal. Full coverage and cheapest of all the cars I own, even with the 429 in it. They come through too. I have used it twice and both times they did a great job. I'm sure if it weas a total loss it would be a hassle, but they are that way on all of the cars.

Insurance?

I ended up getting regular insurance through my agent (I think the carrying company is Allied). Cost is $500 per year for full insurance with a $1,000 deductible. This covers my stated value of my truck of $18,000. All I had to do was provide pictures.

Thanks for input guys.
