Rear Fender Bolts

Ok, I've searched the posts in the 61-66 and 48-60 and I can't find any mention of how to get the fender bolts out of the side of the bed. On my 62 I was carefull and I can reuse them, but the fenders were already removed (not so carefully) from my 53 when I bought it. So I need to replace the bolts in the side of the bed. All I can figure is that they are welded in place but I'm not sure how to remove them. Aside from a BFH is there a method that won't distort the metal? Any info would be appreciated.

I used a socket behind the bolts along with the end os a sledge hammer to ensure it is solid, then I hit the end of the bolts with a hammer. All of them came out O.K.

I used a LFH (2 pound) and a sharp cold chisel. After two ar three, I pretty much figured it out. On my 51, there are three spot welds on each, and they came out fairly easily. Allen Griffith

I used a 4" grinder and CAREFULLY grinded the head off from inside the bed. Once it got down real thin it just picked off with a screwdriver.

I used a 5" grinder and ground the h*** out of them and the bedside.

The truck had been a scrap metal hauler, so I wasn't that concerned but I don't recommend this method to others!
