National Speed Limit

That's right, I read it in a truckers' magazine that someone in the Federal gov't is proposing, once again, a uniform national speed limit on Interstate highways. Comments?

Har..de..har..har...that's a good one, hkiefus. Unfortunately, if its government sponsored that means its safety related and we all know what that means. They will want to raise the drinking age to 55 and lower the speed limit to 21.

I think automated speed control would be better, You know a computer chip in your car that adjusts your speed as you enter differant speed zones,,,,,,,,Sounds sorta space age but I bet in time we will see it.

No. I cannot say that enough times. There is no way I will trust some programmer to determine how fast I can go, especially under the direction of the government.
This is some politician trying to further their career. If they looked at any information coming from speed limit studies, they would see that a higher speed limit would reduce deaths, so that is hopefully the way they will go.
Regardless of which way they send the speed limit, there are still people who will do 90+. The difference is if the person they hit is doing 55 or 85.

Alright I'm gonna say it anyway. I think this guy is just trying to find a bill that others will help him pass, then he can add on some stuff to build bridges and malls in his district. Just an entire re-elect me campaign, I wanna find out who he is and see if he's up for re-election anytime soon.

Also, I understand that hey maybe it would be a good idea if a chip would regulate how fast you could travel determined by what road you are on. That's real nifty but you and I both know that this would never work because someone would always find a way to hack the chip and go around it. Not to mention of what might happen is the chip suddenly malfunctioned while you were in the process of driving the vehicle.

You cant 'hack" the OBD11 computer can you? It would work, Studys show that speeding is a major reason for traffic deaths. Try to tamper with the program in the cars computer and see how fast it will fail the anual safety emmission test,,,LOL I might add that the anual test are recorded from year to year and any 'tampering" could result in the car being taken off the road and a heavy fine placed on the owner, that would work.

I would love to see a national speed limit of 75MPH. As long as the frickin buttholes who do 50 would stay in the right lane

How many different chips are on the market to alter your vehicles preformance?

By the way, there are tons of studies by the Europeans that go directly against the study your pointing out. Specifically towards the Autobahn with no speed limit has been proven to be safer then other road types. The Europeans have also compared recent statistics and found that traveling at high speeds is not proven to be that much more dangerous.

What would probably help is if they made the drivers tests tougher, made it so you really had to learn the rules of the roads. Also stiffening the penalties, do what the Game Ward's in Virginia do to people who spotlight deer, take their vehicle. If you travel within excess of so many miles per hour of the speed limit then you lose not only your license but also the vehicle.
