Inside rear bumper is a good idea, but remember to protect it well from the debris/dirt. Even with mud flaps off roading is going to throw in a ton of dirt.
Thanks for the suggestions so far, but I have already purchased the camera. I got a package deal. Kenwood: DDX-6019 head unit, sirius tuner, bluetooth, ipod connector and video camera. So I'm limited to installing what I have. More help welcome.

Post up after you install this-I have the same setup but haven't done the camera yet. I think for next season I am going to do the camera since I am trailering all the time when it gets warm.
I installed mine at the bottom of the tail gate handle, ran the wire inside the tail gate and through the service hole on the left hand side. From there I enclosed the wire in a split wire loom and ran it to the cab. The camera is high enough to protect it from the elements and give a very wide view. It is part of my Eclipse AVN 7000 unit with GPS, DVD etc.
i just finished installing the pioneer d-2 in my 2000. I used HMI corp. backup camera. The camara is very easy to install because you just unscrew your old third brake light and reinstall theirs which houses the camera. The quality of the picture is very good and gives a huge area of vision. The only bad thing I can say is that there is no adjustment of the cameras angle and it sees about 8 inches behind my hitch ball and hooking up to the boat solo is why I got it. I'll have to stick something off the reciever on a magnet into the the cameras view, but i'll never run over another skateboard.
I have mine mounted, for the last three years, right above the hitch. It is actually right in between the hitch and the bumper facia. I have the saav rear view camera that is just about the same size as the kenwood camera.

nice install job! My question is whats the second trailer hook-up to the right of the hitch for? (I'm assuming thats what it is)
just curious

The second 7 pin connector is for my work trailer with my alarm hook up. I used the standard 4 pins for the lights... and then used the three remaining pins for a loop circuit for the doors and hitch alarm. Now if someone opens the doors or disconnects the trailer the alarm sounds and calls / emails me the location. As for the camera, I love it. It is simply JB welded onto the top of the reciever and has NEVER moved in three years. The picture is great too.
