Hey guys, newbie here with a q. I have a 2002 SCrew FX4 w/ 60K miles. I have a slight oil leak coming from the passenger side of the motor. I thought it might be the rear main but it looks like oil is coming down the side of the motor. I can't see exactly where it's coming from though. I thought the PCV might have something to do with it.....swapped that and it's still leaking a good bit. I've felt around the valve covers and they are dry so I don't think its a valve cover gasket. Any idea whats on the passenger side that could be causing this?
Dropped it off at the dealer and waiting to hear what they say. So far I've read about the rear mains and the head gasket leaks. I don't think it's rear main b/c like I said I can see it coming down from from somewhere on passenger side. I've read a lot about the 99's etc having the head gasket trouble and I'm thinking this is what it is. Mines an 02 but if this is the case I'm surely going to raise a fuss and try to get the dealer to pay. But hopefully it won't be any of the above and be something simple......
Dealer called.....head gasket. He said inspector is coming by I guess to verify it and stuff but he said they will pay the cost. I'm happy about that but very disappointed that this happened.
They will pay for it? How did you manage that? You must have an extended warranty or something? Or recently buy it from the dealer and they are honoring the short warranty? Either way, very nice to know you won't have to shell out the cash to fix it.
I don't know. From some of the posts I read about it.....its a "silent recall" or something like that. I pulled up a lot of stuff on it and read where some paid out of pocket and some the dealer or Ford paid. Guess it's all up to the dealer. He said over the phone that it is paid for.....I'm going to verify again when I go in this afternoon to pick up the rental cause I know how stuff like that works. I had planned to raise a fuss about it to try to get them to pay, but I really didn't have to. When I dropped it off....I told them that I think it's the head gasket and that I have read a lot of information about this being a common problem. I don't have extended warranty that I know of......so I'm not sure what triggered them paying the costs.....i guess I'm one of the lucky one's that have the dreaded head gasket problem.
Strike that last post........I do have extended warranty. When I bought the truck the wife and I were going back and forth about getting it. She won out and I completely forgot about it......needless to say she's pointing it out to me that she was right gotta hate that. Anyway, thats what saved me or I'd be in the hole pretty good having to pay out of pocket with it. The service manager said the inspector would have to look at it and then they'd contact me with what they were going to do. This sounded a little fishy to me. I change my own oil and have done so religiously every 3K miles and the truck has been babied ever since I bought it. I hope they don't try to raise anything up like "you didn't service it here" etc.
