i like the look of the slant or mitre cut stack, but what about keeping rain and such out, i wouldnt want to put flappers on. obviously the bullhauler and curved top dont let nearly as much water in as mitre cut stacks, what do you guys do about this? drainplug?
A friend of mine has the mitre cuts and he just drilled two lil holes down at the bottom... he said that it whistle very lightly when its cold but otherwise u can't even notice them there, just and idea =]
i've got twin 6" mitre cuts. i haven't done anything about the rain. the only thing is that after a hard rain some carbon gets loose and blown all over, but then washes off in the next rain i haven't worried about the rest of the system because it's stainless steel
I made custom covers for my turnouts. I took some sheet steel and cut it to the size and shape of the opening. On the top lip I rolled it so to speak to where you can hang it on the stack. Then I glued a sponge to the inside of it and shaped it to fit snugly. It helps hold it on the stack and soaks up any water that may blow by from wind. If I know it's gonna rain, or think it will I put them on when I'm not at home. And since I painted them black you can't tell they are on unless you walk up on it. I was sick of everyone at work saying "I like your redneck rain caps!" Which were coffee cans. But if it does rain down in them, It will blow soot all over the truck. And If you don't wash it off, unlike 96p said, I find it hard to get off. But I wash my truck all the time, so I guess it wouldn't matter. Just my .02.
i think slant cut stacks w/ the rain caps would look sweet. the bull haulers would be my second choice
How are you gonna put rain caps on miter cut stacks?
I always used to think the "flapper" rain caps looked cool, but apparently nobody else thinks that because I never see them on any trucks. If I did stacks I would probably do regular straight cut 4" stacks with rain caps on top. Everyone here has the curved or bull hauler style, with a few miter cut, and very few straight cut.
