Stacks & Rain
Hey guys my first post here, found out about this site at Smokin in the smokies back in April great site after looking around for a while
Now to the question, I have an 01 F-250 Ext cab and I was thinking on buying some 5 in mitre cut stacks but I was wondering what negative effects will happen if the truck sits all day out in the rain won't you have to bore a hole into the exhuast or does it come prebored? Thanks JD

From what I've read, most guys either drill a small hole at the low point, or cover the stacks with coffee cans..... In all truth, it would take a torential downpour for DAYS straight (pretty much flood conditions) to ever have rain water fill your "air tight" exhaust, and get into your heads. The main complaint of not having a drain in your stacks is that when you get on it, the exhaust gas will blow soot soaked water all over your truck.

You all have seen the deluge in the middle of the country lately, haven't you?? Hopefully it'll be just about done by the time I get back to Texas...
Seriously though -- I'd be pissed if I shot soot-water all over my white truck every time it rained. I know a lot of you like the stacks -- they just ain't my cup-o-tea. Besides, now that I'm about to put in the DP 140 Smoke, I want to be able to fill the ricers next to me with a cab full of soot.

Hey JD, it's Kris, good to see that you finally came to FTE, you'll like it here. I have a small, 1/8"ish hole drilled at the lowest point in my exhaust system, which happens to be the elbow-side of the flex pipe joint. I do get some black soot spots on the top of my toolbox and the gray bedrails as well. Oh well it comes with the territory, right?

Hey Kris, yeah I have been around a bit just haven't made a post yet, so how is Brian's new Tranny and Jody's new tunes working for ya? Thanks for the input on the stacks, I knew if they got a little wet such at the car wash they would leave soot spots but I was just wonderin without the hole what would happen when you fired it up with a bit of water in it. I'd just make it safe and drill a hole in it,but that will have to wait till I put back some funds :-p

Here in Western Washington we get quite a bit of rain. I have had my 5in miters for about 6 months. Yeah there is a small bit of soot-water that gets on the truck. Mostly on the top of the cab and back of the bed. Having a white truck I do see the soot easier then if I had a darker color. But the way I see it, its no worse then all the crap that my tires kick up on the sides of the truck.
