Question about the electrical ground
I need to know if my 1979 F150 Ranger XLT has a positive or a negative ground so that I can put a cb radio in it. Please let me know.

Welcome to the site.
Positive ground was an British Auitomobile thing.
IIRC, Positive ground in America was gone before 6 volt systems.
Most batteries are marked + or -
the Negative cable will go to a ground source like the egnine block.
where you can power your radio from if you wish.

I know that Ford did have a 6 volt, positive ground system in use on the '49 F-1 with a flat head V-8. I helped my best friend completely restore, then street his '49 F-1 and that is exactly how it was wired.

Many cars of all makes had the 6V + ground systems until the mid 50's. Check with the guys down in the 48-60 forum for specifics.

99% of 6 volt cars had positive ground systems. When 12 volts became the norm..it was needed to turn over hot V8 engines, among other things...everyone switched to negative ground.
Last year Ford used positive ground=1955

I stand corrected
I was around English cars at that time.
Austin's, Hillman's,MG's.
I thought 6 volt cars were Neg ground.
