In most cases very much so. My wife has one in March of 03 and this June has to have another one placed inside the first one because it got blocked by plaque. Good luck and a speedy recovery, you should be home by Christmas.
My 56 year old friend just had a stint put in, and he is feeling great now . The procedure has added 15 years to his life according to his docs. He didnt even know he had a real circulation problem, until they found it on his yearly physical/stress test....
The followup heart cath tests they did on him showed he was a major heart attack candidate, with a 92 % blockage in one of his heart arteries. He was home from the procedure in two days. good luck.
My father had a few of them. He said he felt better right away, mostly because he said his brain was getting more flow. He had no pain and was out in 2 days. Good luck with it. Our prayers are with you for a quick and complete recovery.
My father had one about 3 years ago and he felt 100% better almost immediately. Shortness of breathe was gone, headaches gone, tiredness gone and this was at the age of 75.
azjan,
I had one put in in June. I was down to running out of breath walking my dog on flat ground. Now I am riding my bike and looking forward to the upcoming ski season.
It is a fairly simple procedure. You will do fine.
I had two installed 2/21/2006 after suffering a heart attack at work (I work in a hospital). I had been feeling like ((*^*&% for months and the docs could not find the problem. I felt great within days of them being installed.
The only suggestion that I would give you is ask about plain stents or the drug elluting stents. Both have their pros and cons and you should be informed of the different choices and risks.
Will I went to the hosipal on 12-19-06 to get checked on that camara theh they stick in your vein at the groin area. Doc looks arount for a few minutes and says you need need surgery. A quad by-pass. got home a few hours ago. First two days were bad. Feel good know. Just have to take easy for a few weeks.
Hey, those work also. My father-in-law had a quad bypass when he was 72. He chews tobacco, drinks wine, and eats like a horse. He is 79, and I expect he will be around for many more years.
I had a heart attack in oct.03. They put in one stint and said I got another 100% blockage in another artery.
Only problem I have had was the artery in my groin didn't want to stop bleeding.
