Palpitations

Does anyone else get these?
It started with me about a month ago, (a day or two after some heavy drinking)
Then slowly got better, then went away for about a week and a half. Then started again last week.
I went to the hospital, got an ECG, blood test and all that. My Doc told me ,my blood was good, and the ecg didnt show anything, of course they never happend when i was at the hospital. Its very sparadic.
Freaks me out a little bit.

Are you sure they are heart palpitations... they could be hypoglycemic incidents, often mistaken for palpitations.

They happen to almost everybody. I had an occurance back in the eighties and I knew I was a goner despite all of the doctors tests. Some folks experience them with a higher frequency rate. I couldn't sleep or concentrate on my job, just miserable. Mine went away with a better diet and a good vitamin. I still get them occasionally but getting nervous about it just makes it worse. Relax, eat right, take a good vitamin, and enjoy life.

I have had those for years . I can be sitting in my recliner and my heart will flutter, hesitate, jump back in rythm. After a full bionic man type stress test, with the dye injected in me and nuclear medicine photos taken, my doc said it was just my heart's " electrical system" misfiring and needing to get back in time. That was 15 years ago, its still palpitating and am still here. Go to your doc if you start getting chest pains or shortness of breath , and if it is severe get to the ER, jmo

I get them every once in a while. I went to the doc a few years back at my wife's request. Turns out that mine are caused by a extraordinarly powerful heart. When oxygenated blood leaves my heart it causes the cusps of the valve to vibrate. Probably from all my years of playing triathlete. Did you get an ultrasound of your heart? That's what diagnosed mine. Doc said it was no big deal.

I get palp's all the time. It's no big deal (sort of). My palp's start when I get PVC's (pre-ventricular contrations). I get them when I drink too much coffee or eat Kraft dinner. Some collegues of mine get them when under extreme stress. Try to narrrow down what is causing the palp's (like simular situations between the two incidents).

If it gets you that wound out, ask your doc to do a 24 or 48 hour Holter monitor (it's a ECG recorder that's attached to you for the duration).

I'm hypoglycemic, and I get very painful palpitations. Enough to bring tears to my eyes and stop me from breathing. Have't had one in a while though. I think it is something to do with the lack of blood sugar effecting how well the muscles can operate.

Thanks for the info guys,
The emergency doc told me to ask my doc for a holter meter thingy, i forgot to though when I was there for my blood test results.
i think its me stressing about it constantly that keeps them happening, its hard to not think about it. It doesnt hurt, its more awkward feeling and uncomfortable.

Hypoglycemia mimmicking palp's:

I have come accross a number of people, and experienced it myself, that hypoglycemia, until you get used to it, can race the heartbeat, stumble it, and generally increase massive anxiety.. It can be very alarming for the first time getter.

Hypoglycemia is not generally regarded as just abnormally low sugar levels - it is medically apparent at that time, but the entire yo yo sugar level syndrome is hypoglycemia.

as usual, I am not arguing, just stating the facts as I learned them. I can be way off the mark, but hope I am not.

Could possibly be atrial fibrillation. I've gone through it for over 40 years. Doctors are not sure exactly what causes it. They think stress or caffiene and alcohol. It's not dangerous unless it continues for a loooong period of time. Usually converts to normal by itself but if it doesn't, doctor will give drugs to convert. Worst case is the paddles. Very rare to use those though. Had a doctor years back who was a marathon runner and got a. fib everytime he ran. Never worried about it. If it didn't convert, he would just go in and have them use the paddles. Don't be afraid of it. It's just uncomfortable and get make you panicky which doesn't help. Keep regular visits to the dr. and take care. Most everybody has irregular heartbeats from time to time. Some people feel them more than others. Good luck.

The edit function times out, so this is a different kind of edit.

Hypoclycemia is the condition of abnormally low blood sugar, which can cause insulin reactions which can cause irregular heart beats, (palps)..... Hyperglycemia is the state of high blood sugar.... Having hypoglycemia gives you both more than normal, and abnormally low blood sugar - up and down; it is very likely to lead to diabetes... The Atkins diet is the most amazing way of dealing with them - In two years I have had 2 hypoglycemic incidents, both caused by me eating the wrong stuff.. Prior to going on the Atkins diet I had hypo incidents 2 or 3 times a day, caused by yo yo effects of up and down sugar.

My heart palpitations

Mine had slowly got worse over the years. Since my Dad has them, I went and did all the stress tests and the moniter thingy a few years ago. I was in generally good health but the doc said to get off caffine.

I had also read that exercise was in order and I had a growing gut, back and leg pain, all from being 30 or so lbs overweight.

I now mostly drink decaf, I try to exercise daily; lets hope I can keep it up. The wife is now involved and it's a team effort.

Anyway I lost 20lbs (gained 10 back but losing them again) and my heart palpitations are as frequent as 1 every few weeks instead of 1 to 2 a day. The ones that I do have are usually during stressful times or when I'm really tired and sitting down.

Quote: "It doesnt hurt, its more awkward feeling and uncomfortable."

Mine does the same thing, try holding your breath and tightening your cheat muscles when you are having them, that seems to calm down my palpatations.

Ask your doc if you can start an excercise program. I bought a machine like the one "Chuck Norris" is promoting.

Heck no weights to set up and it folds against the wall. My wife likes my new muscles I put on.
