stuck starter
The problem may be the bendix drive remove the starter and spray some WD40 in the starter drive(the little gear in the end of the starter) put the starter back in if it still hangs up you may want to replace it. Make sure your ignition wire and starter wire (the two small wires on the solenoid) are not touching or cross shorted anywhere this can also make the starter keep running after engine startup.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-Jan-02 AT 11:09 PM (EST)]Your starter should only be engaging when your key is turning to start. It sounds like you may have the starter wire hooked up wrong on the back of your ignition switch.(considering you have a new starter.) I also have a 55f-100 with a 302 in it, and this is my first project. Wiring is tedious, and necessary to get right. I did all the wiring on mine from scratch, and with help from people on this board. Good luck to you, and let me know how you're coming along.
