any ford diesel made after 84 or 85 came with a gear reduction starter. nipondenzo and mitsubishi are the two most common.
i got 8 years and close to 200,000 miles out of one of these.

I replaced the older gear reduction style. The longer one that had been in the truck for quite sometime.
