any ford diesel made after 84 or 85 came with a gear reduction starter. nipondenzo and mitsubishi are the two most common.

i got 8 years and close to 200,000 miles out of one of these.

Justin and i were talking about this the other day. Ya only the early 6.9 had a DD starter as i understand.

Justin: Mine is the mitsu, my dads is the nippon and is smaller.

Seems that the nippon spins over faster, but mine will crank longer (could be batteries tho)

Wow they screwed me then, they wanted 140 for the rebuilt with 1 or 5 year warranty, paid 219 for the new lifetime warranty.

After using various starters from parts stores, there really is no comparison with the ones from DB. Anyone with one can verify this. If I remember right they have free shipping too.

Don't forget quick shipping. I got mine in less than a week. Its nice to have a shiny brand new starter. Sure its made in china but what isn't these days. It does come with a specs sheet, and test results. Like the draw that the motor pulls.

I replaced the older gear reduction style. The longer one that had been in the truck for quite sometime.
