Took of the drum on the passenger rear and had a heck of a time pulling it off. Tried to put it back on only to find one of the wheel studs didn't line up completely so I had to really work to get the drum back on. how much do studs cost and are they hard to replace?? Should I replace them?? thanks!!
most studs are cheap, less than $5.00. not too hard to replace. if it is bent badly, you may want to try to straighten or cut the threaded part off. then pound the shoulder out of the flange.
the new stud can be "set" into place if you put some grease on the splines and around the hole. stack a bunch of washers on the stud and seat by tighting a lug nut to pull it in.
are you able to get a lug nut on and tight ? you may be able to put a socket and long extension over the stud and lug nut and straighten it out. what is the worst case, you break it. if you can't get a good grip with the lug nut and socket, remove the lug nut and find a piece of galvanized water pipe, maybe 1/2", and slid over the stud to straighten.
i would say, if you have 8 studs, 1 broken does not cause a major problem unless you are fully loaded and on a rough road
I tapped it with a 15# sledge a few times and am able to get teh drum on and off much easier. It wasn't extremely difficult, just took a pry bar... will look into a new stud...thanks for the help!!
