has anybody put a 48-52 f-1 on a corvette? i'm asking because i have a chance to buy a 78 l-82 4-speed with low miles but has been setting for about 20 years and needs to be restored, and i have allready done all the body work on a 48 f-1 but haven't started on the frame or drive line.
I know people who have mounted the corvette parts on the Ford frame ie rear axle and suspension, engine tranny etc but being purists in this group we dont like to use the C word much
You can do it but you'll end up with two piles of junk instead of one. No offnse intended to either vehicle just think your going backwards with two nice projects.
Well, corvettes aren't reall all that rare, so if yo can get what you need for a good price, I would go for it. Why not? Sounds cool! You will probably have to modify the heck out of the corvette frame, but it probably wont be that hard, sounds cool. Just don't trash your old truck chassis, pass it along to another truck enthusiast, OK?
a streetrodder friend of mine is thinking of selling a crossmember to mount Corvette IFS to any flat frame. He is having the first 3 built now and they are all destined for early 30's streetrods he is building. He will probably be asking about $400 for the crossmember.
I don't know what kind of a fabricator you are, but you are looking at a huge project. If you must have Corvette running gear you would be much better served to have a tube frame made and just use the suspension out of the 'Vette. Better yet, get a tube frame and buy C4 (84-96) Vette Suspension instead of C3 (68-82). You can buy them for less than $1000 and get better brakes and rack and pinion steering. The C3 still has an steering assist setup. If you can get the Vette cheap enough, get it running and sell it. You should then have enough for a tube frame and suspensions. Just my opinion.
