Just dropped a 1984 Lincoln 302 and AOD into my five three. Who makes headers that clear the steering box? I need some center dumps and am having a hard time finding them. Anyone use Sandersons? I can't wait to try out this throttle body injection and AOD combo. Everything else went pretty easy, just need exhaust information. Thanks folks, will keep you posted if you are interested. The 223 threw a rod and the Lincoln was pretty cheap, and runs well besides. Liked the six-hope to love the eight.
Work with a guy who has a 55 with a 302,used early Mustang headers,it has a Volare clip under it.He said he had to bend the left header outward to clear the shift linkage on the trans. I don'tknow if they will work with the stock frame/steering.
What motor mounts did you use? I have a 1988 5.0 I am wanting to put in my 53 with a volare front end.I have not been able to find motor mounts for it ,I guess I will have to have some fabricated for it
I used a motor mount kit for a 302/Volare clip combo. They are available from Mid-Fifty and other vendors. I installed them a couple weeks ago and it went pretty smooth and they look nice. I could email a PIC if you'd like. You could definitely skip the kit and fab them from stock but the drivers side mount would be a trick if you did not have anything to copy.
I think alot of us would like to see the pics can you post a link on this forum. I'm going to be putting a volare clip in my 61. then a 302 when the 292 get tired. The experience of others is always appreceated
I'm using a set of factory Australian tubular headers on my '56 F100 with 302 and a TCI clip. They're a really different design than I've seen here in the US. I found them at a swap meet in Bremerton, WA for $40. If anyone wants to see a picture of them, I'll post them on my website.

I just dropped a 1970 mustang 302 in my 53 "effie" with stock suspension and steering. I used the 90 degree dump headers from Midfifty and they fit nicely. I originally tried the MAC huggers for a 90-92 5.0 but they hit the steering box. The left exhaust has to be double bent to fit past the transmission cross member but it is easy to do.
I noticed your reply to the fellow looking for headers.
I have a '51 F-1 that has a early 70's 302. (in when I bought it)
I also have an '88 Cougar XR-7. I've been thinking of taking the
fuel injected 5.0 liter, automatic od tranny out for my truck.
However, did you open a can of worms with the electronics, computer, etc. required for the 5.0?
Any info would be appreciated.
Erik
I have a 54 with volare K and just finished putting in a 351W.
I use the motor mount setup from No Limit Engineering. I'm not sure that you'll find it on their web site, however here is the part #M-301. It uses a stock oem rubber mount, that part can be bought from NLE, but the part # I used was 2286 and got it at a local parts house for $20 less. Just a warning, the drivers sidemount requires fabrication, but it wasn't hard. The unit costs $49.50. Their web site is (http://nolimit.net).
Installing a mass air injection system shouldn't be that hard. Just get a Helm wiring manual for you donor car and follow it religiously, ignition and sensors., can't live without them.
I used a 'Johns F-fun 100s' motor mount and tranny mount, and they are sweet, bolted right in and everything fits. Got a 9" with 3.50 posi and am just about ready to run.
I went with Summit shorties for headers into the Lincoln exhaust, Hey, I had it! And it fit! Driveshaft shortened, truck sits nice but is a little higher in front than before. Reverse eye springs should take care of that and hey, I have a set of those too! Anyone looking for a three speed overdrive trans with all 12 v. electrics from a 56?
Thanks for the help guys, I'm sure I'll have more questions as time goes on.
I'm hoping the person who originally wrote this still reads this from time to time. If so, what did you do for a fuel pump for your '84 Lincoln throttle body motor swap? The Vaccum/electrical manual and the Wiring diagram both show an external pump for the Lincoln, but there is not one on my car and Carquest says there is not one available. Advance lists an external mounted Delco pump 3961834 but GM says this is not a good part number. I hate to buy the pump from Advance and not be able to use it-no returns on special orders.
Carquest also says the in-tank pump is 40-60 psi. That's too high for a throttle body isn't it? I thought throttle body was more like 12 psi. Thanks to anybody who has "been there-done that".
