I am new here and am looking for some help in a matter that I have with my 05 F250 Power Stroke.
It has been in the shop 12-14 times in the last 2 years for many different problems, all of which have been taken care of, except for one, occasionally the truck will spray coolant all over the left side of the engine compartment, left wheel well and down the left side of the truck. It has been in the shop 5 times so far and when I got it back the last time they said they cant find out what is wrong and to just drive it until it gets worse.
Does anyone have any ideas, your help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you geo.
Do you tow? have a programmer? Could be a couple of things---egr cooler, bad cap on your degas bottle, or blown head gaskets. I'm sure one of our tech's will be along to help you diagnose better than I can what's wrong with it, but those are the major possibilities.
First off, make sure that your coolant level is not above the minumum mark on the degas bottle, next... If you're using a programmer or tuner, and removing it before you bring it in for service, then they probably can't duplicate the problem, since it would be the excessive boost that's making it happen. If that is not the case, there is a TSB that your dealer should be following to determine if you have a head-gasket or EGR cooler failure. Make sure you are going to a dealer that does alot of diesel work.

Every time it leaks I have been towing a tool trailer that weighs about 7000#. I do not have a programer in it. They already replaced the EGR cooler once, replaced the degas bottle cap 2 times, they had me hook up my camping trailer that weighs approx. 7500# I took it back to the shop they had gauges and a computer hooked up to it and went for a 60mile drive and could find nothing wrong. They thought it might be head gaskets but the computer and gauges did'nt show any problems.
A friend of mine who was a (Dodge Diesel Mech.) talked to some buddies of his today about my truck they said it could possibly be a porous block. They said that the 6.0 has had some issues with this and that it could be putting hydocarbons in the coolant. Has any one heard of this? They also said this happened about 10-11 years ago with the 7.3?
never heard of that but it is hard to believe it only happens when you are towing if it is holes in the block, but it is possible. if it keep doin it i would say head gaskets
I have heard of porous blocks on 6.0s and 4.5s, but they only caused oil to leak out of the high pressure resevoir, and it's extremely rare. I haven't heard of coolant problems though.
