Deep sigh... My bud with the '76 4x4 (short bed) called me 2 weeks ago, told me someone offered $300 for it, but he offered to me (for $150) first. I told him to do us both a favor and take the $300. I talked to him again last night: The guy shows up and says he wants to hear the motor run first. The starter sucked major amps without turning, the truck still sits.
Geeeeezzzzzz! A '76 F-150 shortbed with a clear title, the usual rust, a few minor dents, glass intact, interior good, tires ok, D44 front, 9" rear, NP435/205 behind a 460 conversion (work already done) that has a "stretched rod". Forget the motor came home in the back of my truck, consider it broken. What part of larceny does this guy not understand?
She told me to not bring it home. :~(
I have to agree with her on the point that we have one broke down, and that's one too many. I wonder if the old man has forgotten the camper that I let sit at his place...
Damn I 'm glad it aint just me who's broke as a MF .. sorry we all are buts it's nice not to be alone LOL....Ah well it makes for good thinking time right
Well if its a 4 bolt main 429 the price goes way up.. Some of the 429's were the only block that came in the 385 series with 4 bolt mains..and make a wicked stroker motor!
Russ, what are the odds of a 2bbl engine having a 4bolt block. I picked up a 4bbl 1971 429 for $75. Had a d1ve that I threw in a ditch. There was more sand and gunk in the block than the neighbor kids sandbox if you know what I mean.
I wish I had kept it but space was limited at the time and I din't have the pallet racking that I have now.
LOL ..I have seen stranger things happen!!! One thing that I have learned over the years dealing with FoMoCo products..Is too expect the unexpected!! LOL..I have seen some weird Chit!!
If that IS the original carb, it's almost worth half the asking price. The 429 2v carb is the big one with 1.33 throttle bores. The Dirt track guys pay a premium for these. As for it possibly having a 4 bolt block, anything is possible.
