Soon I'm gonna be buying a 390 that was rebuilt 2-3 years ago and not run much. I plan on buying hedman longtube headers and running dual exhaust. What else can i do to squeeze a little more power out? I don't know if the bottom end will hold up to a cam if I put one in as I am not forsure what kind of condition they are in. Truck is a 75 f-250 with 360
Put a 4 barrel intake and carburetor on it if it doesn't already have one. A cam would be kind of a shot in the dark since you dont know how or to what specs it was rebuilt. Strength wise, the bottom end would take pretty much any cam you threw at it, assuming proper piston to valve clearance. The problem is you dont know what pistons they used and what compression ratio the motor has. So you've got nothing to match the cam to.
Yeah Kurts right..your going to need to find out whats in the motor before asking any suggestions above and beyond a 4bbl and intake and headers ! Because picking the right heart beat (cam) for a build can either make or break a otherwise good build..
You just dont say well so in so has one and it sound neat..So I want one..and stuff it in your motor.. Alot come into play with the cam..
See if who ever has this engine has a build sheet with it? If not a tear down to look for part #'s will be in order to get the proper add ons....JMO..
