I don't think that K&N filters are all that bad. It's just that it may have a tendency to allow more dirt in then the AIS, especially if it wasn't prep'd right. I do think that the real problem is the airbox lid, mine had the problem of lifting on the tab side. Either modify the existing tab lockdown or get the AIS and not worry about it. The filter replacement is expensive with the AIS, so to each his own.
