My '05 FX4 had the engine knock going for a couple thousand miles before I was forced to take it in. The knock was louder than normal in the morning and decided to take it in to the dealer. On the way, the Service engine light came on. Ends up that because of the faulty phazer, the cylinder stopped firing. They replaced all the phazers in my truck as well as updated the spark plugs to an upgraded model supplied be ford. By the way, only had 16500 miles on it when the service engine light went on. Have run about a 1000 miles since and seems to be running fine.
Do you have any idea what the upgraded plugs are why are they special????
Not sure exactly, but the service manager told me that they were an updated plug from what was originally in my truck. The service invoice says that they replaced all eight and also replaced my injector assembly. For the Phasers, it looks like they replaced two of the sensors for the camshaft position that tells the phasers when to fire. At least that's what I remember the tech telling me. The part # for the spark plugs were PZT*1F*F4. Hope this helps.

I also have a 2004 S-crew F150,FX4 and yes it has a annoying tap from the passenger side wheel well, i had taken it back to the dealer i bought it from, but all we could hear under the hood was some injector noise, i wonder if the sound travels out the wheel well a little louder than when the hoods up?
