I'm kinda shocked that we have a 10% blend hereand also that your truck runs better with E85. I also haven't seen any new Mazda B3000's lately - mostly Rangers. Being that my Expy is a '98, it really wasn't "designed" to run off of ethanol, so I don't plan on using it unless in absolute dire need.
Why Bother? The only time the front wheels actually drive in AWD is if the speed sensors on the transfer case sense rear wheel slipping.
This has been talked about in several other threads and the overall consensus was that there was no appreciable improvement in fuel efficiency (although a determined minority insisted they did get some improvement). I had a bad sensor and it defaulted to rear wheel drive....drove it from Virginia all the way to Utah and didn't see any improvement in mileage (although the darn blinking 4x4 light drove me batty for 4 days).
I know this post is old...but I have a scenario for you. What if the Tcase had been wigging out for some time and trying to constantly engage under load? I'm going to go fill'erup and see, but I have to tell you, I have noticed a HUGE improvement in drivability and power with the fuse pulled. I would have to say that my Tcase has been literally dragging us down for some time...
Now, if everything was functioning normal, I would have to agree with you. You are still turning axles even with the electronics unplugged, and Tcase deactivated. But if you have something wrong in the system...this could give a huge improvement.
