I have an '02 350 and I'm looking at getting a boost gauge to put in the truck since that year didn't come from the factory with one, but I don't know which type I should get.....mechanical or electric? Does it really matter? Which do you guys use/prefer? Should I get one that measures 30 psi and more or is that over kill? (I'm not using a chip.)
I put a mechanical in mine. My 97 7.3 chipped will pull 25 psi maxed out, my 03 7.3 chipped and diffrent turbo housing will pull over 30. so I guess it depends what you want to do with the truck. The lower pressure guage will read more accuratley thats for sure, but you don't want to be running at the end of the guage alot of the time. I tow alot so get the high boost, running empty you won't see these numbers unless you are booting it pretty good and then only for a very short burst. my 97 has a 30 psi guage and the 03 has a 45 or 50 psi from banks i believe. Definatley put in a pyrometer too and if an auto a trans temp guage. Decide now whether you get a 2 or 3 guage pod. Pyro is actually the most important as it will tell you wether you are on the verge of melting your pistons.....
I have the Autometer Phantom guages in my truck. The boost guage is mecanical, which I prefer for that application, and it has a 0-35 psi range, which will be plenty for you as long as your not planning on changing turbos or something like that. That guage is only like 55 bucks depanding on where you go and then you will need to get a mount for it.
Thanks for the replies. I plan on keeping the truck pretty much factory. I occassionally pull a small horse trailer and our camp trailer now and then as time allows The truck has the factory tranny temp gauge, but is it better to use an aftermarket one? I'll definitely get a Pyro gauge as well.

I don't know about that year but I know that the newer trannies (03-07) are just like an idiot light, so your temp. is either good or you have smoked it, meaning that it's not really reading a temp, it just knows normal and hot. Do some research on this site and you should be able to find out if your temp sender is set up the same way.
