I installed my gauges a few weeks back and then installed my DP Tuner. I never had an occassion to put it under any type of load until yesterday when I finally put two and two together!
When you put your foot on the accelerator you are going to raise your boost numbers then you hear that turbo spool up, then you will see your egt's on the rise.
I was under the impression that if I kept my rpm's at two grand in 6th. gear that I was OK, that steep grade on the way to Sun Valley taught me different. The powerstroke never lugged, my water temp stayed on 185, the boost was about 14lbs and my egt's were at 1200 and climbing before I grabbed a lower gear.
I am so thankful for this site preaching getting gauges. I am now a member of the choir, Get your gauges, get your g's, get y g's, g y g's!!!

early 99 CC 4X4 Drw, 6637, straight piped, Dp Tuner 40,60,80,120, Isspro egt. boost, water temp.
i have an early 99 also..i live in the white mountians of nh..a 7 to 8% grade is just a hump in the road..im always in the 80 econo and i half to push prety hard to get that high of EGT's....i mean makeing 25 to 27 pounds of boost and foot to the floor to get that high...normale interstate cruiseing 75 i may see 900 or 950 in a steep long incline...i dont eaven get that high in the 120 cruising...hmmmm
Straight piped Exhaust? is that a factory exhaust just straight piped? A 4" down pipe and 4" or 5 " exhaust will really drop those numbers as will a 6.0 intercooler or a spearco
lol i just edited that to my post alan..was going say im running a 4"down pipe with a 5"strait pipe problem with a 6.0 cooler is we have a smaller intercooler hose...where can get the boots for that mod??
It's factory exhaust with the muffler deleted. Could I have put the probe in too far?
nope you need to put on at least a 4" exhaust..that will make a big difernts.. you got the 6637 air filter sucking all that air and no place for it to go...id get it with a 4" down pipe;; i got mine from mark at http://stores.ebay.com/MKO-DIESEL-PE...Z2QQpZ2QQtZkmt
with a 6" stainles tip for 410 deliverd...

It would probably be pegging out if it was in to far IDPisan. With a 4" DP and 5" exhaust I stuggle to get to 1000* under hard excelleration (unloaded).

Ron I think Garrett has the boot kit.
i see he sells boots but didnt see any for the early 99 6.0 mod..just the 99.5 and up. he does have early 99 boots though..i might half to get some just have on hand..
I don't think there is anything to get excited about. I know the road to Sun Valley, And I have no doubt that you can get over 1200* EGT's pulling some of those hills. Even though it doesn't feel like you were in a "lug", low rpm's on a good grade are ideal conditions for increasing your EGT's. You got the guages, you watch them, you grab a gear and get some more rpm's when you need to cool off.
Let's see, spend over $1000 on a new intake, exhaust, and intercooler, or grab 5th gear, move a little more air, and cool things down for free?
