I ordered the Daystar 2.5" leveling kit and some 305/65R18 BFG tires. Got the tires in and now waiting on the leveling kit which should be delivered tomorrow. My question is, should I try my ford dealership first to see if they will install it? I have the extended warranty on my truck and want to try to avoid any issues later on down the road. Should I just call the service department and ask if they will install it? Or should I just go to some garage and have them do it? I live in Florida and my dealer seems to be pretty easy going on chips so I would think they would be on a leveling kit. I had a superchip in my 2001 F150, and had some big problems and they took it out and put a stock one back in with no charge to me.
What are you alls opinion on this? Ask the dealership to install?
Some dealer ships will install them, but they might not have the best price. I'd call a couple of people and ask how much it'd cost to install the leveling kit and then do a alignment after.
I went with the $80 autospring leveling kit and installed it my self, but it isn't like the Daystar to where you need to decompress the spring. Then I went to my local dealership and got an alignment for $40.
Find a local alignment shop and they should be able to do it for cheap. I have the appointment set for my AS to get installed and he is charging me 120 for the installation and the alignment, so try that and see if that works
What do you man by leveling. I bought some rear shackles for my 2006 and lowered the back 2" and it level. I paid $60 for the whole thing and it did not affect the ride or looks one bit. Is this what you guys are talking about.
Ed
No they are talking about raising the front end. I also bought the autospring 2.5" installed it myself and had the dealership allign it for me total cost 82.95 for As and 32.00 for the allignment.
I would suggest like it was stated before any allignment shop, you will geta better deal through them probably.
Well I called my local Ford Dealership and the service and parts department had no idea what a leveling kit was. They had said that they had never heard or done one before.
I then called 2 other shops and they too had no idea what a leveling kit was. They told me to try a lift kit shop a town away.
One place did know of the leveling kits and how to install but cannot get it done until after xmas. I was kind of hoping to get it sooner than that. Have the 305/65/R18's sitting there waiting to be put on. Guess I will have to try the lift shops.
Any other ideas? I live on the east coast of florida in Indian River County if anyone is famaliar with the area and might have a place to suggest to me.
Maybe if you take them off yourself and take them to a shop that does struts they will compress the springs for you and install the spacers. Then all you will have to do is reinstall everything. It's pretty easy.
So I have called around a few trucks from my last post this morning. Some will not install because I didn't by the leveling kit through them and they "cannot warranty the parts AND labor"!!!! What a bunch of adjfldsl.
But I did find one that would do it but for 320 bucks! Without an alignment. So far this is the only place that will do it and he told me that it will take between 2 and 3 hours. This is a custom truck shop that does lift kits everyday. Why would it take 2 to 3 hours for them to do this?
I am going to keep trying to get ahold of business' to see if they will do it. Kind of out of luck here it seems like. I have never done any shock work so not sure about doing it myself.
Does anyone have the instructions that they could either fax or email me? I was thinking I could fax them to my dealer and see if they would do it after seeing the instructions in front of them. Seems like from reading forums that its not a hard procedure???
I just don't know about paying 320 bucks to have this thing installed.
AgainCall an alignment shop and talk to him explain to him what the kit is and how it works. Those guys can take apart your front end and put back to normal blindfolded. You might have to rent the spring compressor for him to use but you should be able to find a mechanicaly sound person from a front end place or alignment shop that could do this very quickly. The guy that is doing mine told me it would take him 20 to 30 minutes max on each side and the four by four places were wanting to charge me 4 hours labor. All of those places are full of *****. Just look around and you will find one, and no offense Fordication they always look better going up than down.
I put in my autospring kit my self, and taking my time and learing as I went it took me 1 1/2 hours for one side, and after I knew what I was doing I did the other side in 30 minutes.
Yes but he has the daystar which requires a spring compressor. I am with another member in this post, go down to advance auto or pepboys and rent a spring compressor and just do it yourself. Seems liike it will save you alot of money.
I called another place and they want to charge me 250 + alignment cost. Still undecided about whether to just pay to have it done or do it myself. I think that after work today I will get the instructions and drive around town to see if anyone will do it with the instructions in front of them.
