error code P0355

Hi, new to site..lots of good info. My check engine light came on and got an error code P0355 which is ignition coil "E". My question is how do I determine which coil to replace? What does the letter "E" refer to? thanks. FYI, I've recently replaced the coils on cylinders #1 and #5.

Hi and welcome to the forum

The P035* codes start at P0351 for cylinder 1, or like some books or scan tools call it, cylinder A.
A P0355 is for #5 cylinder or cylinder E.
Did you also replace #5 spark plug? It can cause the code.
You could have also got a bad COP (Coil On Plug) or could have a wiring or PCM problem but those are less likely.

I did not replace the plug. I guess I'll try that first and see what happens. Stupid question, but I've never changed a plug on a car. Is it as simple as just pulling the old one out and replacing with a new one?

Do you have to "gap" the plug. If so, how is this done?

I'd suggest first checking the connector for the #5 coil. The P0355 fault code indicates that the problem is in the primary side of the coil's circuit. For a plug to cause this particular fault code would require a very specific and somewhat unusual failure mode (shorted).

A quick resistance reading of the coil's primary winding would also be suggested to see if it's open if no othrer faults are immediately visable.

Look at the bright side, at least it's one of the easily accessible COPS!.

projectsho89, thanks for the info but i am a total novice and don't understand most of what you said other than the connector could be bad. This makes sense since I already replaced the coil. Is this something a non-mechanic like me could do, or should I bring it to someone?
