93 f150. I pulled off the interior panel and followed the cable to the latch and discovered a boot. Removed it and can now see the end of the cable. Any tricks to getting the end of that cable off the latch with the spring attached? I mean I can see what I have to do. Detach the spring and tilt the latch so the cable will come out. But I can see the potential for frustration, cursing and kicking the dog. Any real tricks?
I agree with lostin90s. I recently replaced on one my '93. Tried every way I could think of to do it with the latch in place, but had no luck. I removed the latch and the inside door handle assembly. Ford no longer makes the cable available by itself...you have to buy the whole assembly consisting of the handle and latch mechanisms. You can find just the cable at one of the sponsors listed in the left column of this page. Mine costs about $20.00 including shipping.
Well, I just finished. Did it the hard way all inside the door shell. Yes it was a pain but I figured getting the cable end in the latch was just as bad as pulling and putting back the linkages. The hardest part was getting the spring that attaches from the cable to the top of the latch back on.
