I need the same information as blown331 but didn't want to step in his post...
I've got parts on order at Oreilly's but the counter guy is not giving me a warm fuzzy because he's not asking the questions I'd expect. he's asked if I have a 1/2 ton or 3/4. The bearing he sold me is not the same height as the original when laid flat. He was confused about my hub too. Went to the link posted by blown331 in his bearing question and think the bearing I need is the 387A.
I tried looking up the vin decoders I'd used in the past using useful info links at start of forum, but things don't match exactly there and the Wisconsin Med link didn't connect after several tries (i'd used that b4 with success).
My differential is stamped 3.07 D8TA AFA 603899-1. Vin is x25dg5024, 08100 max GVWR. axle code appears to be 221 but I don't find any matches except for the no. 22 lines up as a 3.07 gear ratio correct for my '79 super cab camper special 2wd.
I didn't see any no.s right off for the axle itself. Please help, there's a million choices and while it may be alright to have slight differences, I have to be told what's right by someone who is certain and he doesn't seem to be.

Thanks Mil1ion! Still in my project after so many years... all this is first time:
removed and rebuilt my engine, took out and swapped trannys, front clips off, cabs off, beds off, wheels off, frame cleaned and painted, now working on replacing bearings and brakes and slowly toward putting things back on.
Friend says I'm trying to make a purse out of sow's ear, what's he know he has an escort with engine #2 .
BTW, what does that make this Super Cab Camper Special, 1/2 ton (guess not), 3/4 ton, or 1 ton? I'd have thought it correlated to axle capacity. How does one know? This info is sometimes being requested when looking up parts.

In about a week or so, I will have all my Ford parts books on site and will be able to decode VIN's from 1964-2006. Post part numbers, and help with interchanges.

Mil1ion, that page is the best. It's been so long, I forgot how to navigate to self help. I finally figured out what the third digit on my axle code was (item 13 on your diagram)! Always thought my code was 221, but it probably is the letter I? Have to go look that up next.
The online parts vehicle selection process threw me when I entered year, F250, then it asked under F250 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, or 1 ton. I know a Superduty exists and I speculated that's the 1 ton version. I presumed mine was a 3/4 ton, but being that I had a Camper Special, with such a low ratio axle (3.07 highway geared that I hear is special and desirable), I didn't know whether it qualified for the 1/2 ton. The literature shows mine has less towing capacity than other F250 models. So there I am, wondering whether by some rarity some F250s are 1/2 ton, what exactly puts a vehicle in those categories, and whether parts page options were no mistake afterall.

F250's from the get go were always 3/4 ton trucks...but starting in the late 1980's Ford added a HD F250. Since the parts stores today are mostly composed of "could care less newbies," most don't know about the earlier trucks.
C rawlfish, My web site is chock full of info. you get access to it by clicking the link in my sig.
then scroll to the bottom of the page and click INDEX.
Code 221 on your axle tag is the plant code of build.
Thanks guys! I appreciate the responses! Mil1ion, I have used your excellent web site as a resource for several years now. Mostly when I started my project, going back to look something up now and again as things progressed. I haven't been there in awhile, and lost most of my bookmarks and saved resource info in a computer hd crash and later a system swap out. Now that things are picking up steam I appreciate your helping point me there again. I clicked on the handle and saw your profile but not the web page I remember. I'll look some more.
NumberDummy, that's new and interesting history too. I know what you mean about most not knowing about the older vehicles... I've learned to self-help alot and keep asking questions... I don't get aggravated as much as when I started this project and now gentle prompts gets them to dig a little bit deeper until "we" come to the best answer.
