What transmission do I have?
TOP COVER: AF-7006-D 21
TAIL PIECE: W(M?)AR 7651A
RIGHT SIDE: 95W
What year is this trans? I believe in 62 they went to synchronized gears? Is this true? Thanks for your help!
Sorry I can't help you with the year of your trans. I believe they started using syncronized gears in 1953. I know for sure though that from 1957 on had them (at least for 3 & 4 speeds).
1957-60 3 speed manual transmissions:
3 speed light duty.........Ford
3 speed overdrive..........Warner T-86
3 speed medium duty........Warner T-89
3 speed heavy duty.........Warner T-87
Hope this helps.

I can confirm that synchro was available at least back to '56 and probably back to '53 since those model year trucks were very similar. My '56 shop manual lists the following 3-speed transmissions:
3 speed light-duty with remote shift - standard on F-100
3 speed light-duty with overdrive - optional on F-100
3 speed heavy-duty with remote shift - standard on F-250, F-350, P-350, and P-500 and optional on F-100
All these transmissions were "Synchro-Silent" in 2nd and 3rd gears. I don't have any info on the stamping numbers - sorry. I know mine is the 3 speed heavy-duty but it's next on my restoration list and I haven't cleaned the crud off yet so I haven't got the numbers.

Also, if anyone can tell date of manufacture from VIN numbers, I would greatly appreciate it.
The Performance Unlimited Tech page has a great explanation of deciphering engine casting numbers for date of manufacture if anyone nees that info.
