Long Range Fuel Tank
I can go about 300 Miles I guesss before I have to refuel... seems like I have "diesel constipation", can't go past a gas station without stopping!
So - I have her booked in this week to a Ford F Truck workshop - to get the standard fuel tank removed & a long range tank added in it's place that holds 250 litres (50 Gallons?) or so (it comes in two pieces, that join in the middle).
I seem to think having measured this standard tank thats being removed....that it would fit sideways inside the back of the truck well body, across the back of the cab, with a inch or so to spare!
Has anyone done this conversion?
Is it a good idea to keep the standard tank and add it into the rear cargoe area as a second tank, increasing my storeage to (365 litres) 75 gallons all up?
This would likely give me 900 miles range towing at 12MPG, which would come in handy hereabouts!
Are there any tricks to connecting a second tank into the fuel supply system?
Obviously I'd need a filler inlet and hose etc, and that would need to be modded into the truck body, and of course the fuel outlet would need to be plumbed via a solenoid with a switch in the cabin to send fuel to the fuel line when the first underbody long range tank is empty!
Just seems a waste not to keep the tank and make some kinda use of it!
Even if I don't add it into the cargo area - maybe it would be handy for brewing bio diesel at home or something!
What would the ford Truck place do with it after they pull it out if i don't take it??
Shouldn't be "unsafe" having extra diesel in the rear cargoe area - not like the vapours will expplode as if it were gas or LPG or something!
Any thoughts?
Cheers
It's made for a pickup bed, so I had to modify my work boxes for it to fit.
