1955 Vin

Hi. Where can I get information on my 1955 f100 VIN? I've searched hi and low and can't find anything. I'd like to know what my VIN numbers tell me about how my truck came from the factory.
Thanks,
Ray

I have the VIN for my truck, I just don't know what it says. As you know, the VIN will tell me where it was built, what engine and tranny it was built with etc...But I can't find any resources to break the code...so to speak. I have a VIN book but the '53,54,55 and '56 Ford F100's and not included. And, I can't find anything on the web. Thanks for you help and please let me know if you think of anything. Ray

Buy a Shop Manual. All the VIN info is in there and you will need it for tons of other stuff. They are available from MotorHaven and others of our sponsors.

Transmission, rear axle ratio, color, etc was coded seperately from the VIN # on the ID plate (riveted to inside of glove box door in 55).

Wow, that's awesome Fred. Thank you. By the way, is the 239ci motor worth rebuilding or would you go with something more modern like a 302 or 351. The truck is all orignal and I'd like to keep it that way unless the 239ci motor isn't worth the trouble. It's not running now so I figure now is the time to make those kind of changes. Any thoughts about it?

Ray, if your truck is all original and you want to keep it that way, then by all means rebuild the 239. It will be more of a challenge than dropping in some later model powerplant, but ultimately more rewarding. There are a wide range of outfits who will have most all you need to freshen up that mill. My $.02

I am somewhere in the middle of rebuilding a 239 right now for my 1954 F-100.
