I guess it could be the cooler weather. The fuel I used was not wintertized, and I had the truck hovering around 2000-2300 RPMs. Maybe a bottle of Stanadyne would help me out each time I fill the tank.
I returned from Michigan with my new truck (CC,LB,cap, plow in bed)on Saturday and averaged 13.85MPG on my first full tank. That is 72-74mph on the highway and about 1 1/2 hours of stop and go traffic in Chicago. Also, I was driving into a 15-20 mph wind.
about a month ago I installed an AFE stage 2 air intake, mbrp dual exhaust, and edge with attitude controller. I do very little towing, after the new installs my average mpg jumped from 17.5-18.2 per tank up to 21-22 per tank, my driving is split about 50/50 between highway and backroads.
My 00' has over 100K miles, all stock except Ford's Super Duty Air filter and trans shift kit. I rarely drive above 65 MPH or 2000 RPM's. When I first got it, it was around 13 MPG's. Changed out the fuel filter, added the shift kit and started using fuel additive, then it was around 14 MPG's. Then added the new air filter system and still using fuel additive (when I remember???), now I get around 15 MPG's. Not sure if it's from daily driving or the little add-ons. In a couple more years I expect to get around 30 MPG's
I'm stuck at work right now or I'd join on that Cheers. Yeah, I was joking about the 30 MPG's, although there's that little silver siren thingy to scare deers away and they guarantee an extra 4 MPG's with it
