back a few years ago, i had to put the third alternator on a vehicle, with 12,000 miles of the first one and all of those were motorcraft alternators. sometimes it just happens. you can get the batteries load tested but i dont feel like this is the case.
I have heard of people putting 2-3 alternators on before finding a good one.
[rant] That seems almost rediculous but I know it has happened. I mean, what if NASA had to go through 2-3 alternators to get a good one? OK not a valid comparison but in 2006 you would think that FoMoCo would have there suppliers in line by now. [end of rant]
I just put one on at 95,000 miles. It was a Motorcraft unit. I now have 5000 miles since then and no problems - yet.
yes but in all reality is is us the consumers fault. we want cheaper, cheaper cheaper. so we get cheaper, not better. have you ever bought a alternater for a nissan or a honda? atleast 600 bucks for beginners. but how often do you have issues? that is why american market autos are struggling to compete with over seas.
Just as a suggestion, make sure you check the no-brainer stuff ( engine ground, low front pass side on the engine--ground strap on the pass side rear of the motor--of course, batt terminals)
I looked for the RF ground for the engine and didn't see them. I was looking for a flat braid ground strap. What are they close too so I can get a better idea of exactly where they are? I want to clean them and see if it helps my RFI problem.
