Does anyone know if another year headphones and remote would work for an 02 with a vcr? I looked on ebay for a set of headphones but I didn't find any for an 02, they are all 03 and newer.
O God I hope I don't step in it with this but let me give it a try.
It should emit either an IR (infrared) freq or an RF (Radio) freq. and that should determine what headphones you need. Is it a factory system or aftermarket? Try looking at the headphones and see if it says on them. Also probably a little "window" like on your TV remote if it is IR.
If all else fails post up the make and model and someone will be able to search and figure it out.

Sorry, I misunderstood your first post, I am not that dumb, its IR, I didn't know if all the newer IR headphones would work. Its a factory entertainment system in an 02, I might look at circuit city or someplace like that for a set and see how they work, thanks again.
I think most years are infrared. If these units come from the same vendor chances are they use the same protocols for transmission of the signal. I believe all the '03 and up units are from Visteon. If your VCR based system is Visteon and infrared I'll bet it's compatilbe with newer headphone units.
Do you know anyone with a newer Expy with the RSE system? If not, check the P/N's for the headphones between '02's and a new Expy.

Sorry man, I know just enough to get me in trouble but seldomly enough to truely help.
I have the factory DVD system on my 2002 Limited - and it came with 2 wireless headphones - as well as the remote being wireless! however -I've not figured out how to get the headphones to work! I've turned them on? but get nothing? I;ve just never really taken the time to look into it since we purchased the vehicle new! back in 2002...
Same problem here. Audio comes out of the speakers but not through the IR headphones. The headphones are good (tested on another Ford)...
Press the 3 & 5 simultaneously and it will activate the headphones. You may have to sellect your mode of play via the rear console but they will work great.
