Do you mean 1" when pulling on the wheel top or bottom, or the whole assembly moves one inch out towards you when pulling on the wheel with the vehicle jacked up? Really need more information.

If the whole thing moves, along with the brake rotor, I would think the locknuts have backed off.

When I took my locking hub off passenger side I can move the axle in and out a least 1" if not a little more. Not lifted. And the brake rotor does not move. But I think i figured it out. When I pulled the axle out to change the u-joints the inner spline came out. Looks to me like the c clip either broke or came off. Now I can't get the two bolts loose on the side of the differential. They probably never been off. Gotem soaking in PB Blast as we speak. Am I right in thinking it is a dana 50.

if you have the C-Clip off of the end of the axle shaft, there _should_ be some play. The c-clip that goes into the groove at the end of the axle keeps the axle from moving, and keeps the inner seal pulled up against the back side of the spindle.

as you have an F350, it is most definitely a Dana 50.

The inner spline doesn't have a c-clip, it just slides in and out of the slip yoke that goes into the differential.

There is no c clip on the inner spline (passenger side) in the differential. Looked to me like there is a groove in the spline for one. I guess I don't understane what keeps the axle from moving in and out (like it does then) I understand there is some movement but not like I have. Could bad u-joints cause this. There wasn't a c-clip on the out side of the ale shaft on either side. Groove doesn't look deep enough to accept one.
