side view mirrors

Hi gang, I was wondering if any of you have used side mirrors from another vehicle that work with a 56 f100, although I do like the originals I am going for a newer look. I have seen some after market ones but they seem pricey and thought you guys could give me some ideas. Thanks John

I`m in the same boat, I haven`t came up with any mirrors that I liked. I think I will stick with the orginal round stlye untill someone comes up with a better idea. Mine has a stock body and the round ones look the best to me.

Hi Wayne, I just took a quick look at your gallary, that's one great looking pickup, I'll spend more time looking it over this evening. Do those mirrors bolt in the original mounting location, it's not quite the look that I was going for but it is an other alternative to look into if I can't find anything else. Thanks for the tip.

I posted a similar thread on this a few weeks ago, with no luck.

On my 55 panel and 54 pickup, I have a set of these $29.00 ? plastic truck and van chrome mirrors which bolt on the doors with 2 bolts.
I love these mirrors (you can see them on my gallery). The lines blend nicely with the bodies, and they are very practial....I even put spot mirrors on them.
I wish I could find them in a more substantial material at a higher price, for I would rather pay more for a good non-plastic mirror.

My problem is that I broke one of these cheapo mirrors while tightening down the adjustment and, after a solid week of searching the net, I can only find them in black....like no-one makes them anymore in chrome.

If anyone knows of this style in chrome, please let me know.

Take a look at the panel and you might like the style also.

Paul

My neighbor has a set of mid '80s Ford truck type mirrors on his truck. I think the look pretty good on his truck and you get them cheap at almost any place that sell aftermarket mirrors. They also show up on uPay on a regular basis and usually sell for under $50 a pair.

I don't want to use something this modern on my '48-50s so I am going to build a set of stainless steel mirrors from parts I have seen at different places consisting of a stainless retangular head and stainless steel adjustable arm. I have the little round mirrors on my F-2 and they look nice but are useless. With my panel truck and my F-4 stake bed truck I want to be able to see objects through the mirrors because of the huge blind spots. The mirrors I will use will look pretty close to stock, something like this:

Of course nice and shiny. I don't want to deal with rust so stainless is the way to go.

Thanks John, The mirrors do not mount in stock openings. My body man and I had a misunderstanding and he filled the holes, that is why the after market mirrors. They have one threaded stud in the back for mounting through the door.

Hi Wayne, I just took a good look at your gallery again and I've got to say that the six years you said it took to complete was well worth it, it's one beautiful ride, I only wish it were mine. I'm sure you will pick up a few more trophies but none as nice as the one you are driving.
p.s. do you keep the keys in it?

John

Thanks for the comments everyone, and it was worth the 6+ years it took me to get to this stage. I,m sure you understand when I say it isn,t completely done yet. Are they ever?
I had a lot of help and advise from the guys on here, and I only wish that I had discovered this site sooner than I did.

Thanks for posting the picture Kent, every once in a while I can get it right, but not this time.
