is this normal?

I did a bit of mudding in a friends farm field tuesday night. had to get in 4x4 as soon as i hit the grass because my tires are close to bald BFG's. when i was done flinging some mud, and ready to leave, i dropped it in 2wd using the floor shifter and got out and unlocked the hubs. when i got back to my other friends house, i was still able to pull the floor shifter in 4hi. the dash light came on and everything. got out and made sure the hubs were free, and they both were. as far as i remember, my truck never did this before. did something happen, or is this a normality that ive never seen?

It's a normality you've never seen. The transfer case doesn't know if the hubs are locked or not. All the light reports is that the transfer case is in 4x4.

x2.

you can also throw it into 4LO without the hubs locked in and you'll have 2LO (if you need extra power to pull something).

the only thing that happens is that your front drive train turns, but the hubs keep the front wheels from turning.
