Need Exhaust Help

I have a 1992 F150 with a 302, and im looking for some ideas for exaust, i want an exaust that will get peoples attention, my dad wont let me get duals so thats out of the question. I can however do anything to the single exhaust that is currently on the pickup, but i have to use the stock tail pipe,

i dont know if i would just get a piece of exhaust pipe the same length as the muffler is and put that in place of it, if it would sound good or not, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

first off is this your truck or your dads? and do you live in a emissions testing area?

cutting the muffler out will give very little sound, it wont get any attention, once you get 3 feet away from the tailpipe you wont be able to hear it.

why does it have to keep the stock tailpipe, you could get a manderal bent tailpipe that exits in the same place.

if you want a decent sounding single exhaust, loose both cat converters, if you feel the need replace with one highflow unit. if you want loud get a 20 dollar glasspack and hang that before the axle and connect to your tail pipe.

does you dad not like the look of dual pipes out the back? is that the only reason their out of the question?

I have to agree with Jimbo.....the exhaust on my truck is broke right in front of the muffler and the truck is still very quiet....gonna have to mess with the cats to get more sound from it!!

get headers and bassani Y pipe with hi flow cats, this will increase your sound big time and allow you to keep the rest of the exhaust looking stock. how much are you willing to spend?

maremont part number M30001 is a mandrel bent 3" tailpipe for these trucks, its on page 1384 of their 2005 catalog. The cost is $24.99 at autozone, find someone that carries maramont products and quote what I just bolded.

lol, no its my truck but my dad paid for half, and no i live in kansas so its pretty much what ever u want to do u can, just dont let the cops hear u LOL. My dad is the type that likes things stock, and thinks i will waste my money getting duals, maybe i could get him to let me take off cats, they are lookin a bit crappy, i prob dont want to spend over $50 on the exhaust, i had a cherry bomb glasspack on my 460, loved the sound, so i will probably get one of them, and thanks Pud if the tail pipe is around that price maybe he will give in. Thanks for the help guys

50 bucks aint gonna get you much, if you can get your dad to go for the big 3 inch tail pipe, then buy it.

if kansas dosnt do emmisons test, cut off both cats, leaving the small crossover with the o2 sensor in place.

get a y pipe made, this might cost 25 or 30 bucks to have made. you can buy sticks of exhaust pipe at auto parts stores, they advarage about 25-30 bucks for a 10 foot stick.

run 2.5 or 3 inch pipe after the y pipe into whatever muffler you choose, finish with the 3 inch tailpipe. if you use a 20 dollar glasspack or turbo muffler it'll be plenty loud. the hole thing will cost about 100- 125 bucks if you do it yourself.

to bad your dad dont like duals they look and sound sweet, on mine i ran 2.25 inch pipe off my shorty headers, no cats, to a set of thrush glasspacks then through a st of manderal bent 2.5 inch tailpipes and out a set of 3.5 inch chrome tips. this setup sounds freaking sweet

50 bucks will get ya all the pipe ya need from your local salvage yard.
I'm wrestle'n with my exhaust system at the moment. Been under there for 4 days now. Well over 30 hours spent on this project but cost is under 50 bucks (-beer) so far. Might help if I had some experience with this as well.

i did the work myself with a little help from a buddy who welds.

for cost i spent about 30 bucks for 15 feet of aluminized 2.25 inch pipe, 19.95 for each glasspack, i bought the tailpipes from a exhaust shop for 35 bucks, spent maybe 15 bucks on a few universal hangers.

i cut all my pipes to size with a sawsall. i had a exhaust shop flare the ends of the pipes, the shop didnt charge me nothing becouse i bought my tailpipes there.

i hung the exhaust and then had a buddy weld all the pipe together.

all together it cost me about 120 bucks, and a friday and saturday night laying under the truck in the garage. it was worth it.
