My old 1953 F-100 which has a 6-cyl 215 ci. motor has been sitting for a long time and now runs pretty rough. I'm assuming the valves may be stuck. Any suggestions for stuck valves. I've heard of everything from commercial products to transmission fluid. Any one have a method they think is best? Thanks in advance.
Ive been using tranny fluid for decades. If its a stuck valve it frees it. If its still running poor its time to do a valve job or replace the cam assuming it just isnt something basic like bad gas, carb or ignition.
Do a before and after compression test.

Thanks for the help.One person told me to remove the plugs and pour "plenty" transmission fluid into the cylinders. How much would you recommend?
I wouldnt pour any down the plug holes. I run it into the carb only.
Make sure you are upwind because the white smoke will be intense. Pour in a little at a time and try and keep the revs up around 1000-1200, dont kill the engine. Usually a half quart or less will do the job but I have had to use it all at times.
Take the truck out for a ride around the block several times while it is nice and warm.
The Marvel Mystery oil in both gas and oil is a good idea.
Or you can also pour a quart of ATF in the gas and just tolerate the smoke for awhile, in at least 10 gallons it will be barely noticable and ATF is an excellent top end lubricant. I do that every time I take a vehicle out of winter storage.
