C6 transmission clutch plates

The clearances were within the specs in the 76 shop manual. The truck is a 76 F-350 with a 460, however, the transmission is from a 79. When I did the rebuild, I did a part for part replacement. It had 3 steel plates and 3 friction plates. The 76 shop manual says it should have 4 steel and 4 friction. When I tried to put in 4 and 4 then there was no way to install the snap ring. I figured that it was a difference between the 76 and the 79 because when I do 3 and 3 I get clearances that are within spec.
I would love to find the exact specs for the 79. By the way, if any one has the shop manual for a 79 F-series truck in pdf form and would like to email it to me, it would be much appreciated. Also, if any one needs any part of the 76 F-series shop manual, I would be more than willing to email it.

Part for part does not guarantee that the clearance stys correct, that is why it has to be checked. Sometimes 6 cylinder transmissions would use fewer clutches, so it is always a possibility somebody swapped in a different clutch drum. Some of the components are different thicknesses to be able to adjust the clearance. Also, did you replace the seals in the clutch drum?
