Ordered me an '08

Well, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered me an '08 350 Crew Cab Long Bed King Ranch Dually 4X4.

I was wondering about the colors too, but the 2007 F-150's have the same colors (Dark Blue Pearl and Forest Green), so I looked at those on his lot and picked the blue. I wish they had red, not that copper!

Since my wife just rolls her eyes when I talk about my new truck, I'd thought I'd tell you guys.

I got:

1) Navigation System (I hope there's an aux input so I can get a wireless camera for my 5th wheel)
2) Rapid Heat & Heated Seats (it won't fit in the garage, so it'll be cold in the winter mornings. I know the tag says San Diego, but it does get into the 40's in the morning, once or twice! )
3) Garage Door Opener (can't lose that!)
4) Upfitter switches
5) 4X4 off road package
6) Driver's Memory Package
7) TowCommand System
8) Dual Alternators
9) Electronic Shift-on-the-fly
10) Traction Control
11) Reverse Vehicle Sensor
12) Tailgate Step (Wife's short)
13) Adjustable Gas / Brake Pedals (see Tailgate Step)
14) All Terrain Tires
15) 4.10 limited slip rear-end

I was bummed that they don't offer the bed extender on the dually, I like to use it to keep small things from sliding around and the fact that it folded out of the way was cool.

I do have a question for you. The dealer told me that I have a couple of weeks to change the order before it's locked for production. Should I get the Tow Boss package, the big thing is the 4.30 rear-end. The only negative is the lower mileage. Since this is going to be my daily commuter, I debateing if it's worth the extra 2,500-ish pounds of towing capacity.

The dealer's not sure, but he's telling me it should be here by March. I was the first order, so my order number is 0001 priority 11, whatever that means, but at least it's in Ford's system!

I'll let you know when I get it!

I can't wait!

Mark

That's exciting, congrats on your order. It will be hard waiting.

Heated seats? In SoCal? Wow they make you Californians soft nowadays. I'm looking out the window in Salt Lake City today and it's snowing. Beautiful but I know those heated seats will be much more appreciated here.

Hi Mark,

What are you planning to tow?

If you don't plan to tow more than 15-16K then the 4:10 will work, otherwise the 4:30's will be good for a little over 18K with the auto and boss tow package.

But, if you want to tow 18K with 4:30 axles then maybe might want to think about the 450. It comes with 4:30's and has a much better turning radis.

If you go with the 350 and install the 4:30's then maybe you might also want to look into the gearvendor aftermarket device. http://www.gearvendors.com/index.html

I myself will be looking into getting the 450 loaded with the 6 speed and intall the gearvendors device to help with the milage.

The 5th wheel has a GVW ~12,000 lbs., well under the 4.10 configuration towing limits. I'm just wondering how long it's going to take to "needing" to trade up to a bigger fiver. Maybe by staying with the 4.10 rear-end will force me not to upgrade.

I ordered a 450 with a box on it, why would the turning radius be any better then the 350?

Mark,
The current 350 DW 4x4 auto or manual with the 4:10 is good for 15600, according to the Ford Towing guide. Which is more than enough for the 12000lbs 5th wheel you currently have. If you upgrade to the 4:30 Boss package you get a 18100 as long as you stick with the auto. But me personally, At this point I'd get the 450 with the 4:30's.

KingFish,
The 450 has a diffferent front end on it then the 350. It is wider, thus the front tires are able to turn a little tighter. Check out the propaganda video on the ford sight. It shows the 450 turing inside of the compitition. The 350 will turn about the same as the compitition.

Well, I have a build date, the week of January 8, with a delivery the week of January 29! Now I just have to wait for a bolt on 5th wheel hitch for the 2008!

Congrates on the truck, I’m jealous. I just ordered my cart, now I need the horse to pull it with. I plan on ordering my 450 in about a week or so.

Sure wish I could see one on the lot first. Like to see how my back side fits in the set. I guess I need the warm fuzzy of experiencing the truck first before I buy it.

Wow, used the pricing tools that were in the other posts and came up with a $51k invoice and $57k sticker. About $5k more than I wanted to spend, but then I did go for all the new toys like navigation, etc that added almost $3k invoice. Oh well, this is my dream truck and I'll be keeping her for a long time.

If you're not towing a lot of heavy 5th wheelers & as you said your daily comuter I would go with the 3.73 rear end if I could
