WHY? (rant)
A nice radio is one thing. Spending more then the vehicle is worth is quite another. Personaly a radio has little value to me. The expensive radios are always the one's that get stolen. sometimes it pays to buy the cheap stuff. If it does get stolen you ain't out much. I am very interested to see what some of my peers will be saying 10 years from now "What? speak up kid.." If you want a over done radio that's fine that's the beauty of living here. But if you do is it that much to ask to leave the vehicle looking halfway decent? Just like my truck. They pimped out the radio and everytime you rolled the window up or down you it the door speaker. I don't imagine that can be very good for the speaker. Not to mention a huge hole in the inner door panel which would cost $60-$100 to replace.
It would take a rocket sciecitist to steal a radio out of these new rigs, thier conected to everything in the dash, it would be easier to steal the whole car ha ha. Yeah rust bucket, you see these kids in these rusted out cars, and when they stop at a light, thier windows are vibrating from the 24" subwoofer where the rear seat use to be, it does help shake the rust off I guess. It's not that this generation doesn't listen, it's that they can't hear you cause thier deaf. I don't see how that much bass makes music enjoyable. And it's not that these are big cars either, there little sport compacts with a 500 watt system, it's not like 50 watts couldn't run you out of one of those cracker boxes.
Yeah...I ain't a fan of the heavy subwoofers, but I do demand good sound. Good head unit, component fronts, normal rears, 10" sub for fill. I can't stand the plain jane sound the stock radios have, the boringness and lack of tone and upper and lower end.
If you have the money and want the sound, go for it. If you don't, then don't. I know Walmart has one of those CD players bundled with speakers for around $60.

You can have good sound with out a huge amp that takes up most of the trunk. I have some 6X9 speakers that sound just fine when you crank them up. The factory speaker in the S10 were perfect. Not scratchy or nothing when you cranked it up. About the only good thing in that truck.
Yeah, I sure don't need no amp in my ranger, the rockford fosgates are plenty loud in that small of space, The stock speakers were pretty good. But when stock paper speakers get a little age on them, they start crackleing, humming and what not.The fosgates give a nice rich deep sound with no distorsion, but sure don't need no amp. Rust bucket, I found some good deals on name brand cd stero's in crutchfield for under a 100.00$ How much are you looking to pay, least as possible I know, but whats your price range ?

But I see from your profile that you have not yet hit age 20. Now I also see you don't listen to the radio while driving. What do you do, sit in the driveway with the radio on, and saw the wheel back and forth, and move the shifter, like my friends and I used to do when we were 10?
My dad died in '97, so in can't be reincarnation.
Good luck with your old truck and good luck in finding a suitably crappy radio for it.

Good luck, and I take no responsibility for the crappyness of whatever u buy.
U know, you could go used... Call up a car audio place, and ask if they have any cheap used radios.
OR find someone who works at best buy, or walmart, and get a cheap radio with their discount
O yeah, whoever did the radio in the car where they speakers hit the windows is retarded..........
they make SHALLOW MOUNT SPEAKERS!!!!!!!!! Or, they coulda measured, OR they coulda gotten the dust caps modified... morons and car audio do NOT go well together....
/end rant on stupid people
good luck with ur truck, let me know if there's anything I can help u with

I've got a 1996 Mustang with about 200,000 miles on it, and about $1,000 of stereo equipment. My car looks great on the inside and out, and sounds good inside and out. Having Bass in a car is not a waste of money if thats what you like. I think it adds a whole 'nother dimension to the sound. Like someone else mentioned, I don't smoke or drink and this is how I prefer to spend my money. Who are you to judge me and say that my "rusted out car" is a waste of money? Oh, and by the way, I spent $200.00 on an HD satellite radio ready stereo and love it. When I drive my car I am happy, I just hope you can get that with your crappy $32.00 radio.
We have the right to judge, it was given to us by the ghost of Henery Ford himself. To much bass is a sign of a bad childhood or other such issues, that can be resolved through brain washing on this forum ha ha. Seriously, I would rather see people spend thier money on thier cars rather than drugs or drinking. I'm not a big bass person, but to each his own. I think a good sound system can make or break a car. Life is to short, so enjoy it. I love the style of the 96 mustang, is it a gt or v6 model, either way thier sharpe. A lot of mustangs had that mach system from the factory, it wasn't to bad. I got to have decent tunes in my ride, I bore easy ha ha.
