The auto hubs on my 2003 F250 are not working right. This past weekend, I tore them down, cleaned and relubed them. They seem to engage okay, but don't stay engaged. Could this be a vacuum leak? Would a vacuum leak cause
them to disengage?

Mine never worked right (if at all) either...I just lock the hubs when I want 4x4...and unlock them when I don't need it...No guesswork...LoL
The vacum does not hold the hub in the engaged position it just actuates it. if it is indeed locking then its not a vacum leak
There is a tsb out on this.TSB#04-18-5
The problem maybe too much lube in there now or you have bad needle bearings that have alowed the axle shaft to contact the hub lock mechanism.
Chk out the TSB

I was looking at one of the advertisers on this sight and found steel braided vacum lines for the hubs (can't remember which one but i'm sure you can google it). Might be something you wanna look into.
Well, I tested the vacuum line and they held constant pressure for over an hour, so it must be the needle bearings. Of course the local Ford dealer parts department isn't open on weekends.
As far as the Warn or Mile Marker hubs... I may end up going this route, but where I live it's very convenient to have the auto hubs as I can be in & out of 4WD frequently. Thanks to all for your input and advice!
