Most often, the terms "innexpensive" and "safest" can not always be used in the same sentance when talking about lifts. What is commonly most innexpensive is not always safe and is rarely comfortable. I would recommend the Donahoe Racing kit. Quality components, good design, comfortable ride. It is hard to get all three qualities in a kit and only a few do. Fabtech has good stuff too.
Concur. You wont find cheap and quality side by side. Not unless someone is trying to go out of business. I thought the DR folks were super friendly, helpful at answering all my "well what if" questions (I know, customers can be so irritating) . . . and the ride. Wow. I was hoping it would be comparable to factory, but assumed it would be a little less. No way. It rides like a dream. Honest, if I totaled this truck out tomorrow, after all the tricks I've done to it, if I replaced it, the very first things I'd do would be the DR springs and a set of Firestone Ride Rites in the back.
Talk to Jason at Wheelers off road. Slammin good pricing on DR lifts. And you can tweak any kit you want, subbing a part here or there to suit your particular wish list.
Definitely concur on the DR lift. I have nothing but great things to say about their service and their product. Sold my truck with the 6" earlier this year, but my next will have the DR installed immediately after purchase. It is worth the cash!
ok so im getting the idea that no matter what i do it wont be cheap, but what do i need? where should i start, should i buy a full kit or would it be cheaper to peice one ogether?
It only works out cheaper piecing stuff together if you are going to make components yourself such as trac bar brackets and carrier spacers and stuff like that. Most of the time it is much easier simply to get the kit.
Fabtech, ProComp, skyjacker, there are lots of good systems you could go with. Personally I dont know much about DR but they do have a good reputation. Are you planning on installing it yourself?
I have a 6.5 Pro Comp on my 03 and it rides pretty darn good.
yes i plan to install the kit myself, most of the kits i have looked at require no drilling or welding, so i am prety sure i can handel it.... has any one else installed a kit themselvs??? if so was it difficult? or is it pretty managable
Everything was a bolt on but it did take the guy about 5 hrs not to mention thats all he does day in and day out. If you have access to a lift it would help ya a lot
