hey all, i was wondering what kind of aftermarket tachs will work for my 83 F-250 with the 300. I dont like the look of the factory tach, and i dont want to do all the work to switch pods. Im fine with just boltin an aftermarket one onto the dash or column. But i was wondering what tachs will work, and how hard it is to wire up.
sorry for my confusion, but i would also like to know if i could hook up "just any old tach" to my 1993 mustang, in the event that i get in an accident with the truck or decide to sell it. Would the tach input just be the negative end of the coil terminal?
can i get a link of a popular tach that will work?

It is all about personal preferance. Big, small, black, white, chrome, gold, shift light, no shift light. Plus you can spend anywhere from $25 to $500...(no kidding there). Take a stroll through an Autozone/PepBoys store and take a gander. As mentioned Summit Racing.com has plenty in different price ranges. Also as mentioned most (simple) aftermarket tachs are easy to install. One wire to the ground, one wire to the coil and one wire to turn on the backlight so see at night. It would be easily swapped into another vehicle. As for difficuilty to install...I'd have to say harder than changing a flat but less hard than installing a radio.
Shop around...stay and stay within your budget. You won't need a fancy tach unless you are taking your truck to the drag strip on a regular basis....They all tell engine speed. Don't forget...there is always the ever popular eBay.
My 2 cents.
