Well here is the deal I have a 05 FX4 with 2.5 autospring and have not had any problems.
Last week I got hit in the lower right front bumper by some idiot and only had minor damage. It knocked things out of alignment so I took it and got that fixed, but now when turning my wheel full deflection either way I can hear a click/pop noise right before it gets to the stops.
I am hesitant to take it to the dealer right away because I am sure they will attribute it to the autospring.
What could this be? and what should I check out to see if I can find a problem.
Well got the truck back and I figured I would give a little update. Had the rack for the steering replaced and ofcourse had an alignment and balance. Everything is working great and I had the best experience EVER with any dealer repair shop. I brought it in last tues. with out callling ahead and on thurs. they called and said no problem was found, I was a little dumbfounded so I went in and had a service rep. manager come out to take a look and he noticed the problem. They apologized for missing it and said they would keep it and check it out real good. Friday they called and said the rack was damaged and that the part would not be into monday.....Then came the shocker when he kept on apologizing for missing it and said they would warrenty every thing parts, labor, alignment and balance!!!!
Now that don't happen every day.
Holy crap! all that niceness, even with a modified suspension. Just goes to show you that not all Ford dealers are u-know-whats. However, it also demonstrates that the standard Ford tech still needs better diagnostic skills. How many things do you think they've missed to date without having someone as persistent as you to get the service manager to look at it. Nice work AirTran, that steering rack would've cost a pretty penny if it wasn't warrantied.
The manager was real nice, and actually complimented me on the level kit. I was worried that the level kit would be blamed, not to mention that I told them that I was hit and it did not start acting up until right after the accident. As for the money, the rack would have been about $800 + labor then another $120 for the alignemt, rotation, and balance, so it would have definately been over a grand easily. I think one of the reasons I was treated good, was because I didnt go in there raising hell saying they better find out whats wrong after they said nothing was messed up, I just acted diplomatic and said that I was concerned with the safety of the truck and I would rather have them keep the truck longer and check it out all the way to be safe.
