I know I should use the search function but for some reason I'm not allowed. Again!
My manual says use Mercon, then in parentheses It says DexronII. I'm sure I have seen other types mentioned as well in the threads here.
If anyone can shed some light on this, I would appreciate it. I'm planning on a complete drain, trans and converter, so I don't want to buy a couple of cases of the wrong stuff. Thanks.
The manual says MERCON. You won't find a MERCON fluid that doesn't also say DEXRON III. Those two specs are almost identical, so any fluid that meets one, meets the other, too.
In mid-2007 Ford will stop licensing MERCON. It will go away. They changed the formulation of MERCON V recently so that it is compatible with the E4OD/4R100. That's what you will have to use in the future.
