I am hoping that someone out there could tell me how to test if my turbo is operating correctly. I am not hearing it spool up anymore and I am concerned that it may be toasted. I have a 94 powerstroke with 211,000 miles on it. I recently noticed that in the morning that it wont wind up beyond bout 2500 rpm till its warm, and ideas on how I can see if the turbo is working properly. Any help would be much appreciated.
I'm betting the EBPV is spooking you. Try the above test on the shaft. Other than that, get a boost gauge, and a Tymar intake. Not only will you be able to hear it better you can see what it's doing.
The EBPV was sticking closed due to a failed pedestal. Wired the damn thing open and everything works great now. Will look for a used pedestal since new is 500 bucks or more.
I had the same issue I have not replaced the EBPV pedistal just left it open, I end up liking it better, I just keep it plugged in at night, but even when I forget I do not notice any difference in warm up time, but my mileage went up 1.5 mpg last tank of fuel. I will know more on this next tank

The EBPV is located next to the turbo, passagener side near the firewall. If anything a closed EBPV would muffle the sound of the trubo as I experienced.
