question on 66-72 F100 diff ratios

What are the most common differential gear ratios found in rear ends from aprox. 1966 to 1972 F100 1/2 tons?

Which is most likely to have the higher (numerically lower) gear ratio? A truck with std trans or a truck with auto trans?

question on 66-72 F100 diff ratios

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I have purchased one each of 3.70 (1972) and 3.90 (1968) I believe these to be fairly commonly used ratios. I believe the engine size had just as much to do with Fords decision as did type of transmission. Some of the old 6 cylinders were geared pretty stiff. (low)

question on 66-72 F100 diff ratios

If you haven't had a chance, another place to post this question would be on the 1961-1966 or 1967-1972 forums. They might have some good additional info.

question on 66-72 F100 diff ratios

I had a '71 with a 360/C6 and it had a 3.00 rear, and I just bought the rear out of a '69 for my '53 that was a 3.5(2) (don't remember)
