Exclamation Fuel problem

Out driving in the desert yesterday and engine acted as if running out of fuel, tank 3/4 full, so I limp it back to camp, change fuel filter, starts up, runs fine so call it a night. Next morning starts up fine, load up and start heading home no more than a mile and starts acting like it's out of fuel again, check lift pump seems to be working fine, good volume and pressure, still not running right, get towed home, check lift pump again, seems good to go but now engine won't even fire off.... Any ideas ???????????

Running out of fuel... can you describe that? Does it stutter and buck, and hesitate? Does it feel like the engine cuts out and comes back in fast? It can be a classic problem of the 7.3 engine, the Camshaft Position Sensor, and it can cause the engine to act like that.

No it doesn't stutter and buck, it sounds more like a miss on several cylinders and it did come back to life a couple of times. I thought cam sensor too but had heard that it pretty much shuts down the engine when it goes bad or causes the engine to stall. I have close to 180000 miles on my truck without having to change the cps, so maybe that would be a good start..

Could be a UVC harness.

Did the check engine light ever come on?

yes ck eng light was on but it pretty much stays on ever since I put a programer in. Programer has been disconnected for diagnostics. I forgot to mention that the OD light started blinking when all this happened.

You'll need to retrieve the codes that have been triggered. What programmer do you have? Some can pull the codes and make your life a lot easier, especially if you can post the codes here.

Thank guys for the help!! problem fixed. Borrowed code reader from work came up with a 1294 highside open pressure bank 2, did some electrical tests, everything pointed to problem inside valve cover so pulled valve cover and discovered injector harness had become slighty unplugged, retainer clip wasn't holding anymore. Insatlled new one and alls well....
